LIVING FORMS | Bioplastic Design

Exhibited at the Wuhan Biennale, as part of the “Carbon Farm” project

Living Forms is a series of 16 algae-based bioplastic sheets made from agar agar and spirulina. Developed for the Carbon Farm project, each sheet reflects the process of transforming CO₂ into matter—light, translucent surfaces embedded with visible traces of algae.

15 of the sheets are screenprinted with abstract, organic forms. These prints are an attempt to imagine the “soul” of algae—not in a mystical sense, but as a way to give shape to the unseen, vital life within it. Each form is unique, shaped by both the material and the process.

This project brings together screenprinting and material experimentation to explore how we might engage with living materials—and how design can make visible the often overlooked forms of life that surround us.
